Outdoor Discoveries Program for Children Summer 2024

Looking for a fun, outdoor program for your children for this summer?

Salt Pond Areas Bird Sanctuaries, Inc. and Kerri Moynihan are partnering to offer hands-on activities, crafts, and games centered on the natural environment for children 4-8 years old. Each program will take place at Bourne Farm, the perfect setting for discovering the outdoors!

Outdoor Discoveries children's summer nature camp

Participants will go on woodland hikes, explore the pumpkin patch, create craft projects to take home, fish from Crocker Pond and play games while enjoying being outside! All sessions include a weekly topic exploration through literature, arts & crafts and exploring all Bourne Farm has to offer! Fishing poles and bait will be provided for sessions 1-4.

Participants are to be dropped off at Bourne Farm by 9 am each day and picked up at 1 pm. Children should bring a light snack, lunch, sun block, and bug spray each day.

2024 Programs

Session 1

July 9, 10, & 11th, Tues- Thurs.

Life on Bourne Farm, then and now! – Along with learning about the present Bourne Farm, we’ll have fun discovering the past. How did the first family live on the 1775 Crowell-Bourne Farm? How was their way of life different from ours today? We’ll make butter from scratch, play games from the past, and see what tools farmers had to use back in the 1700’s!

Session 2

July 16, 17, & 18th, Tues.- Thurs.

Camping on the Farm! – The children will have fun “camping” on the farm! We’ll set up tents & roll out the sleeping bags! Children will explore and learn about camping in different terrains, share campsite stories, and play camp games!

Session 3

July 23, 24 & 25th, Tues.- Thurs.

Nocturnal Creatures on Cape Cod! – During this session we will have fun exploring the many creatures that make the night time come alive with their sounds and activities. We might not be able to see them during the day, but we’ll hike the farm and look high and low for nests and habitats!

Session 4

July 30, 31, & August 1st, Tues- Thurs.

Marine Life! – This week we will discover the many amazing sea creatures residing off our local shores! How many of these creatures have you seen before?

Session 5

Aug. 13, 14 & 15, Tues- Thurs.

Art in Nature – Inspired by the story If You Spent A Day With Thoreau at Walden Pond by Robert Burleigh, we will observe and explore the simple but significant wonders of nature by keeping a nature art journal with collected finds and drawings. We will create pond critter puppets, design a natural habitat puppet theater and have fun taking turns performing as puppeteers.
